Beta testing
Thanks for testing! So far Säckli has been tested almost only on one board, with one iPhone and in one garden. Your boards, bags, places and phones are exactly what is missing.
1. Install
- Install TestFlight from the App Store.
- Open the invitation link you received and tap Accept and Install.
- New versions arrive through TestFlight. A beta version runs for 90 days.
Säckli runs on recent iPhones with iOS 26 or later.
2. Set up
- Put the iPhone on a tripod or a stand, 2 to 3 metres from the board, at about head height.
- The whole board in view, with some ground around it. Upright or sideways both work.
- Don't move the phone during the game.
- On the first start the app explains the steps. Later again under How it works (the question mark on the start screen).
3. Play
- Choose a mode: New game, Säckli Ten, Free round or Two players. Without a tripod, turn off Count with camera.
- Mark the board: tap its four corners or use Find board. The app then looks at the empty board for a moment.
- Start round, throw, End round.
- Check the result, fix the counters if needed, then Confirm.
4. What we'd like from you
Send one round right at the start
At the start, play one round on your own board and send it, even if everything was right. That shows us your board, your bags and your light.
- When the app was wrong: fix the result before confirming, or tap Report and write briefly what was wrong ("the left bag was off"). The note helps most.
- Play two-player games and in different places: indoors, outdoors, a hall, evening light.
- Tell us what is tedious too: the setup, buttons, texts.
5. Sending rounds
- On the start screen open Settings, then Recordings. A number shows how many rounds are ready to send.
- Check the rounds (you can watch each one first) and tap Upload.
- The rounds upload in the background, also when you close the app. By default over Wi-Fi only (about 35 MB per round); you can allow mobile data there.
The videos show the players and have sound. Ask the people in the picture before you send a round. We use them only to improve the detection. Details under Privacy.
6. Known limits
This is where the app is most likely wrong today. Check the result of such rounds closely, and feel free to send them to us.
- Other boards and bags: Säckli has been tested almost only on two boards. With other prints, colours or bags the detection may be worse.
- At the hole: very fast bags straight into the hole, and bags lying on the rim or hanging over it.
- Piles: a bag landing on another one, or pushing a pile.
- People at the board: someone standing beside or in front of the board during a round, or picking up bags, can count as a throw. End round before anyone walks to the board.
- Something covering the board: a plant, a post, a person. The whole board must stay visible for the whole round.
- Board or phone moved: don't move anything during a round. Between rounds the app finds the board again.
- Light: dusk, backlight and hard shadows are barely tested.
- Noise: the microphone helps where it is quiet. A loud hall has not been tested yet.
7. Good to know
- Battery: with the camera about a third per hour. Bring a power bank for a long game.
- Storage: about 35 MB per round. Videos are deleted after 7 days (adjustable under Settings › Recordings), except corrected or reported rounds not sent yet.
- Highlight video: at the end of a game or a Säckli Ten. Save it to Photos with Share or save, otherwise it is deleted with the recordings.
- Without the camera: Säckli also works as a plain scoreboard. Then you count yourselves.
- Crash or bug: take a screenshot and use Send Feedback in TestFlight, or email feedback@saeckli.ch.
